Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can you offer this fixed fee scheme so cheaply when other places
charge so much more to repair at their shop?

A. Quite simply by visiting our customer our workshop overheads are much lower
and we also believe in putting our customers first and not ripping them off.
Q. Just £35 when you could spend more than an hour at my premises?
A. This is true but we have procedures in place to minimise the amount of time it takes to do the longest jobs and have some class-leading products to help us do the job as quickly and professionally as possible, also whilst some jobs will invariably take a long time others are much quicker so time tends to even things out.
Q. Is your fixed fee REALLY all I will pay?
A. It is all you will pay for our services yes, if your PC needs parts then we will quote for those - it is up to you whether to accept the quote and we will repair there and then or whether you prefer to source your own and have us revisit to fit. If you wish to source your own parts we will charge a £10 fee to revisit to cover our costs. Our parts are very competitivly priced - you will not be ripped off.
Q. What is VoIP?
A. Voice-over IP (VoIP) is simply a way of having a phone conversation routed over the internet instead of via BT’s exchanges and cables
Q. Why is VoIP worth looking at?
A. You don’t need more physical lines to have as many phone lines as you like so you can have say 6 phone lines and 1 BT line and you’ll only ever pay line rental on the BT one as normal, it’s also very cheap due to providers not having to worry about copper in the ground so per minute prices are excellent especially for calling abroad, please have a look through our VoIP page for more details.
Q.  My broadband is slow can you help?
A. There 2 things to look at for ADSL speed - the first is your sync speed to the exchange this is governed by the length and quality of your phone line and is the fastest your broadband will go theoretically. Next is the speed when you do a speedtest this can be less than your sync speed depending on how congested your ISP is, whether they use traffic management, how busy your exchange is.
The first thing we look at is your sync speed as that is the marker of the best you can achieve, if it’s low sometimes it can be caused by bad quality internal extensions. If you called BT out and this was the cause you would get a bill in excess of £150 for this. There are some simple fixes that can help which we will try upon visiting. Sometimes this can improve speed by 3-4Mbps on it’s own.  If you are sync’d at the full 8Mbps but it’s still very slow, this is more than likely down to your ISP and we would investigate further on your behalf.
Q. I would like to move from having a USB ADSL modem and share my connection with more than one PC and have wireless at home can you help with this?
A. Of course we can instead of using the modem you would need to purchase an ADSL Router (make sure it says ADSL/BT and NOT cable) the router would then need to be setup with you ADSL login details and wireless activated and secured.  It is CRITICAL that your wireless signal is secured with at least WPA preferably WPA2 if all devices support it, if you do not do this then anyone in range could use your broadband for FREE and what’s worse if they use it to do something illegal the onus would be on YOU to prove you didn’t do it, if in doubt feel free to email and ask we can advise by email or visit and set it all up securely for you.
Q. You mention a loan system if you need to take my PC away, I thought you repaired on site?
A. Yes we do try to repair all computers at your premises but sometimes it’s just not possible due to it being a very long difficult job or we may not have the part on the vehicle at the time. Rather than arrange to come back and repair, we would offer to take it away repair it and return it - usually within 48 hours.During this time we can leave you a loan PC. We carry a couple of loan units preloaded with Windows and some Office compatible applications - just enough to get you going whilst we get your PC repaired and don’t worry about confidential data on the PC - each time it is used it is re-imaged and all previous data is completely wiped from the loan units.
Q. You mention enhanced CRB checked what is this?
A. All our staff have been through an enhanced CRB check which stands for Criminal Record Bureau this is the same check that anyone working with children has to undergo, we do this so you can have full confidence in our staff and feel completely safe allowing them into your home or place of work.  Our staff all carry ID as well, we will let you know the name of the engineer to visit you on booking so you can be sure of who is going to arrive.
